Fires glowing,
Sparking from within,
This smoke is suffocating,
All these cheats and games,
Read between the lies,
You fight?
You lose,
You’re fighting facts,
No grace of God,
You’re fucking with the children of legend,
We’re the people that rise from the ash,
Like a phoenix we rise to glow the dark,
You try to break our bones?
Our secret isn’t physical,
Sometimes it feels like we’re falling apart,
We need more than fire to burn our hearts,
We’re the people that rise from the ash,
Like a phoenix it takes one spark to renew us,
This smoke is devastating,
Conceals all these cheats and games,
Seems like truth is harder to believe in a crowd of booing slander,
You fight,
We survive,
We rise and rebuild,
By the grace of God,
You’re fucking with the familiar face of history,
We’re the people that rise from our ashes,
Like a phoenix we rise to glow the dark,
Amidst hardships and ceaseless persecution and discrimination, the Jewish people have become a symbol of relentless perseverance, survival and despite it all — success. The story of the Jews, their survival and bravery throughout history has made the Jewish people a string connecting history from ancient until today making the civilization of Israel a familiar face to every empire and civilization in history.
This poem was written amidst the devastating Israel-Iran war where antisemitic propaganda has once again found an angel into innocent and kind hearts and Jews are being attacked, discriminated against and scapegoated once again on the streets. Phoenix is a reminder that Jewish bones aren’t brittle and that this too we will survive and overcome, no matter how bad it seemingly will get. The soul of Israel is made of fire and the Jews have the ability to light up and inspire the suffocating darkness.
